Golf Holidays in Phuket Thailand

Phuket is famous as an international beach holiday destination with a myriad of tourist beaches and hotels. Sun, sea and sand are the main attractions of Phuket with over one third of Thailand’s visitors holidaying on the largest island. There are a number of charming islands off the coast of Phuket that can be explored on one of many organised excursions.

There are 8 golf courses on Phuket island including the famous Blue Canyon and the Jack Nicklaus designed Mission Hills. Golf is more expensive on Phuket compared to the rest of Thailand – largely due to the cost of land and it’s popularity with golfers from Hong Kong and Singapore.

If you are looking for a combination of a beach holiday with some first class golf courses, Phuket is an obvious choice. The transfer time by air from Bangkok is around 1 hour.

Golf Courses in Phuket

Phuket has some of the finest golf courses in Asia and they are all open to the holiday golfer. Ranging from the famous Blue Canyon, through the Jack Nicklaus Mission Hills to the stunning new Red Mountain, there are a variety of challenges. However, golf is more expensive here compared with Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

Blue Canyon – Canyon course

The championship Canyon Course features 80 bunkers and water at 10 of its holes as well as plenty of narrow tree-lined fairways, several dog-legs, narrow landing areas and well protected greens. This course was designed by Mr.Yoshikazu Kato. Measuring 7,179 yards, this par72, the Canyon Course has hosted many Asian tournaments including the Johhnie Walker.

The championship tees offer a rigorous test leading you around a challenging 7,129 yards, par 72.

Phuket Country Club (Old course)

The Old Course is an 18-hole, 6483 yards, par 72 course. Designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai, the first one of the golf courses built in Phuket, it was constructed over a reclaimed tin mine site. Water comes into play at seven holes, and there are 54 bunkers. It could never be called daunting and offers the prospect of a relatively low score.

Phuket Country Club (New course)

New Course is a challenging 3575 yards (championship tee) par 37, 9-hole course, particularly suitable for the low handicap golfer. Designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai, the picturesque beauty of the scenery and layout, somewhat softens the difficulty of the course. Mission Hills Golf Club

Mission Hills Golf Club has been carved from rubber plantations and sits among Phuket’s environmentally-friendly mangroves. Great expanses of white sand beach bunkers have been added to contrast with the translucent blue hues of the ocean and the vibrant greens of the Sea Isle grassed fairways and putting surfaces. Nicklaus Design has added some distinguishing quirks, like the two greens that offer alternative finishes on Hole 18.

Red Mountain Golf Club

Players will confront water, wind, cliffs, gorges and forests, demanding uphill and downhill play and requiring the use every one of their clubs.
