Golf Courses in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a great destination for a golf holiday. There is a fine selection of excellent courses and the climate is cooler than Central and Southern Thailand. Our favourite courses are the excellent Chiang Mai Highlands and the challenging Mae Jo. The Alpine Golf Group have made extensive changes to Lumphung which has recently re-opened as one of Thailand’s premier courses.

Royal Chiangmai Golf Resort

The 18 hole, 6900 yards, par 72, designed by 5 times British Open winner Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge, opened in February 1996. The design uses elements from a British links style course, including bumpy gently rolling fairways, pot bunkers and closely mowed areas around the greens. Many of the holes are set with beautiful mountain backdrops, so if your game goes south at least the course and its backdrops will be pleasing to the eye.

Chiang Mai Highlands

Chiangmai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort opened late December 2005. The golf course was designed by Schmidt-Curley Design and features what some describe as “the best greens” in Thailand. The bunkers are typical of other Schmidt-Curley designs, deep and severely penalizing to errant shots. The approaches around greens feature closely mown areas giving the golfer many options of playing either a chip-and-run, pitch or putting onto the green.

Chiangmai- Lumphun Golf Club

This championship course, designed by Dr. Sukhum Sukapanpotharam, is situated in the heart of the beautiful valley 30 minutes east from Chiang Mai. In the foothills of Northern Thailand, amid an enchanting forest of golden teak trees, this 18 holes, par 72, 7,022 yard masterpiece meanders through breathtaking landscaping, mature forest, radiant flowering flora and across refreshing streams, ponds and lakes.

Mae-Jo Golf Club

An 18 holes par 72 Championship golf course measuring 6,700 yards. This par-72 course designed by Seni Thirawat is risk-reward, features rolling zoysia grass fairways and large challenging Korea Velvet greens with beautiful views of Doi Suthep and other surrounding mountain ranges. With thousands of matured Longan, Lychee, Mango, Pomello, and Tangerine trees alongside its fairways, the golf course looks and plays more like a well-matured course rather than a newly constructed one.

Gassan Khuntan Golf Resort

Khuntan means “Devil Mountain’ was established in 2004 and has quickly gained an impressive reputation. The course is set out over 7,062 yards and it has a par of 72 over 18 holes. Designed by Mr.Pravit Reang, is situated in the Doi Khuntan national park which has many historical sites to boast of such as the Khuntan tunnel and the Khuntan railway bridge. It is a challenging course, where you need to be straight off the tee.

Gassan Lake City Golf Club

Experience the charm of Northern Thailand at Gassan Lake City golf course, which situated amidst historical Gassan Lake, paddy fields and mountain, where both water and dense forest come into play. This 18 holes Par 72 7,089 yards course is designed by Gassan’s owner, Mr. Pravit Reang. The resort is set among rice paddy fields, with strategically placed bunkers, ditches and hills. A target golf and risk-reward layout.

Gassan Marina Golf Club

Gassan Marina Golf Club at 7,761 yards, par 72 is the longest course in the North of Thailand. All 18 holes are designed around the contours of a large lake. Set against a back drop of breathtaking mountains with exotic plants, the course does not have any par 5’s but there are 4 par 6’s. Add in plenty of waterside bunkers, a backdrop of mountains, lush greenery, and you have a stunning vista to complement the golfing challenge.

Chiangmai Green Valley Golf Club

This 7,200 yard Dennis Griffiths & Associates designed championship course offers an unusually tough challenge. It features an abundance of well placed bunkers and lots of water that can come into play on nearly every hole on the course. The fairways are ample and mostly level, the greens are large, receptive to approach shots, and putting speed is moderate to slightly fast. However, course length, numerous elevation changes, and prevailing wind makes Green Valley a tough but fair challenge to golfers of all skill levels.
